A few months ago I told you about the new partnership between Ferrari and the Italian audio brand Powersoft to develop top-of-the-range audio systems inside Made in Maranello supercars, today it is the turn of the other top player in the field of motor-sports, namely Lamborghini, which has just announced the partnership with another Italian brand, Sonus Faber. Thus, while Ferrari turned to a “pro audio” area partner, Lamborghini chooses a more typically audiophile brand.

At the moment the Sonus Faber branded audio system will be available as an option on the Lamborghini Revuelto, a hybrid supercar (V12 + electric motor) with a total power of 1015HP.

Fiore Cappelletto, Vice President and General Manager Automotive of McIntosh Group (which also owns the Sonus Faber brand) said:

“The collaboration with Lamborghini is an extremely important milestone for Sonus Faber, further expanding the brand into the luxury car segment. Working on the Revuelto has been exhilarating yet challenging given the cabin's restrictions and the sound of their incredible V12 behind the seats. Thanks to the joint work between the teams in Sant 'Agata and Vicenza, the journey has been remarkable, and we hope to transfer our passion at Sonus Faber to every Revuelto customer. In fact, the system we engineered and tuned fully embodies world-famous Sonus Faber's natural sound. We are honored and grateful for the trust that Lamborghini extended to us on this project.”

Christian Mastro, Marketing Director of Automobili Lamborghini stated that:

The Lamborghini Revuelto offers the peak of the emotions of a super sports car and the inclusion of the Sonus Faber audio system elevates this to an unparalleled experience. The Sonus Faber audio system for the Lamborghini Revuelto combines technology, design and performance as well as the Made in Italy trademark, reflecting the heritage of both our brands and delivering our clients with a uniquely tuned in-car audio immersion.”

The system will make use of seven speakers, with drivers made from a natural composite material and specific phase plugs. Amplification, as in the case of the Ferrari-Powersoft partnership, will be entrusted to a 750 watt Class D system combined with a DSP. To recreate a good frontal image, right in front of the driver and passenger, a central surround channel is used, with an extended response from 100 to 20kHz. For the surround, two full-range speakers are placed behind the seats. In the doors there is a two-way system, with the mid-woofer covering the range between 30 and 15kHz and the tweeter - with a NanoSilk dome - working in parallel from 1.2 kHz to 30 kHz.

The cost of the option is not known, but I imagine it is demanding, certainly not a problem for the typical Lamborghini customer. I observe that car manufacturers are increasingly turning their attention to the quality of sound diffused into their cars, and this certainly is a positive aspect for the suffering HiFi market. And it is also beneficial for us, who have always been accustomed to putting up with audio systems that are inadequate for our needs. Of course, in the case of “normal” cars a good audio system helps to cover the unedifying noise produced by the engine, the wheels and the wind, while for supercars I firmly believe that the sound of sport engines is far more satisfying than any car stereo system, be it audiophile or not.
