A new addition to the “Retro Scene” is Analogy Records who are producing reel to reel tapes of various genres from classical to blue grass.
The unique selling point is that you are getting an original master tape not a second or third generation copy, the tapes are copied from the original studio multi-track master.
The renaissance of vinyl has been developing rapidly and I hope that we can see the same happen with reel to reel tapes, perhaps even some new reel to reel tape players for the domestic market.
I will be writing an in depth review of the tapes from Analogy Records in the next couple of weeks so please look out for this. What I will say is you won't be disappointed, the quality is just amazing both from an audio point of view and the manufacturing.
The premium range come on 15" metal reels and are real beauties, the packaging is superb delivering a real pride of ownership.
Each album comes with a beautifully printed booklet about the artists and the music, for me this is a real bonus as it is a sensible size and easily readable unlike the equivalent supplied with most CDs.
If you are lucky enough to own a 1/2" reel to reel tape machine Analogy Records can also supply the music in that format as part of the premium range.
As well as the premium range the tapes are also available in basic format, on plastic reels, at a significant saving. The recording quality is the same, just the packaging is less expensive plus the range of options smaller, for example they are only available at 7.5ips, SM468 tape and NAB equalisation.
