Last week I told you about the new partnership between Lamborghini and Sonus Faber to develop top-of-the-range audio systems inside the Sant'Agata Bolognese supercars (only for the Revuelto, at the moment). The supercar brand's interest in audio seems not to have ended with this agreement. In fact, here comes a new partnership between Lamborghini and another iconic HiFi brand, namely Technics. This is not the first time that a HiFi company creates branded turntables, I had already told about the commercial agreement between ProJect and Fred Perry, for example. This time it will be Technics to create a special version of its famous SL1200 turntable, equipping it with Lamborghini graphics and iconic racing colours.
The new SL-1200M7B turntable - so it's called - it's based on the SL-1200MK7 model. Actually, it is the very same turntable, with graphics inspired by the V-shaped typical design of Lamborghini models. The new livery will be available in orange, green and yellow, while the turntable mat bears the Lamborghini logo at the centre. This special model will be available only until the end of June 2024.
If you plan to buy one, you'll also get - for free - a vinyl (“The Legends Keep Spinning”) with the recording of the "sound" of six famous 12-cylinder V engines, which made the history of Lamborghini: the 400 GT 2+2, the Miura SV, the Countach 25° Anniversary, the Diablo 6.0 SE, the Murciélago LP 640 and the latest, the Revuelto. The vinyl itself, graphically, looks like a Revuelto wheel.
This is a pure and simple marketing operation, obviously, as the turntable itself doesn't have any extra or special tech spec. I don't know, maybe - in honor of the high speed of the supercars of Sant'Agata Bolognese - they could have added an extra speed, in addition to the canonical 33 and 45 rpm. A Lamborghini-branded turntable that speeds no faster than other turntables makes no sense to me ;-)
A 78 rpm option would have been enough, especially if selectable via an appropriate red racing button! Yes, Lambo, I expect a generous donation to TNT-Audio for this smart idea! ;-)
The price, as was obvious to expect, due to the brand and the limited issue thing, has climbed up to €1500, instead of the usual €900/1000 for an SL1200mk7.
Regarding the vinyl with the sound of the V12 engines, what can I say? It would make me a little sad to put an LP on the turntable to hear the roar of a car, no matter how iconic it may be. We live in these (sad) times, where appearance is almost everything.
